The individual hired for the SAP Basis Service Engineer position will be the Subject Matter Expert for SAP Basis on all the SAP systems at Microsoft. This individual will serve as a SAP Basis Service Engineer in multiple internal (MSIT SAP Basis) and external (MSIT ERP Engineering group) projects. This position will also represent for the MSIT SAP Operations Group during onboarding of new or changed business functionality. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates that are motivated to grow their careers in SAP and Microsoft technologies. As a senior member of the SAP Operations team, the individual will be responsible for ensuring that new SAP-based enterprise business processes fulfill operational requirements and architecture and design principles specifically from an SAP Basis point of view.
Core Job Responsibilities:
SAP Basis Service Engineer for new SAP projects that add new or significantly change existing SAP-based business functionality. Engage with stake holders in Engineering and Solution Delivery groups, own Gate Keeper process and be responsible for artifact and milestone tracking from the Operations side.
Responsibility for Service Engineering of SAP Basis. Reworking of existing applications and processes and/or designing of new applications and processes for optimized Operations, performance, lowest TCO, ease of upgrades etc.
Deliver excellent service and support to internal customers and partners. Position will be responsible for monitoring progress against service level agreements.
Position is responsible for ensuring each reported problems are resolved in a timely manner, tracked according to standards, and escalated problems are resolved as appropriate. Excellent Problem Analysis and troubleshooting skills are required.
Solving high complexity issues, and communicating problem resolution and additional information to management, executive leadership, customer groups, project teams and other IT support groups.
Significant contributions to our knowledge management database as well as information and metrics published on our internal web site.
Managing specific initiatives designed to enhance the SAP system and increase system supportability and performance. Examples include data archiving, security enhancements and data volume and operation change requests.
Facilitating post mortem discussions, investigating root cause analysis and driving the resolution.
Facilitating the quarterly release process - the means by which new functionality and changes are applied to the SAP production systems. Responsibilities include review of Business Unit IT requirements analysis, participation in specification and test plan review. Successful facilitation of this process ensures realistic and practical changes to the SAP environment while meeting the business requirements.
Act as gatekeeper of the SAP landscape to ensure scalability, supportability is built into the design of new SAP implementations.
Developing strong collaborative relationships with local and regional Business Unit IT teams to deliver reporting solutions to the business.
Developing strong collaborative relationships with local and regional SAP ABAP development, test, analyst and engineering teams to evaluate, implement and support new functionality on a quarterly basis.
Extended coverage outside of normal work hours may be required.
Unique Job Responsibilities:

Strong expertise in SAP Basis area (SAP version ECC 6.0 preferred), including ERP, GTS, BI, SCM, Solution Manager and others.
Experience in Microsoft SQL 2008/2005/2012 Server or comparable DBMS and Microsoft Windows Server.
Customer communications and high-level project management.
Program management - Managing internal projects, processes, service, and technology decisions.

Qualifications Include:
This position requires strong communication skills, great organizational agility, and technical writing skills. Candidates must function well in a team environment. Candidates need to be organized with a proven ability to make the correct decisions under pressure. Critical thinking and problem solving skills are required. Candidates must be able to troubleshoot. The ability to analyze complex problems quickly is a MUST for this position.
A minimum of 5-8 years of demonstrated work experience in SAP Basis, including trouble shooting, performance analysis (including DB level), Solution Manager etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent presentation skills.
High-level project management skills.
A BA/BS degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business or related field preferred.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and strong multitasking abilities.
Candidate must have an excellent understanding of Microsoft products, software lifecycle methodology and information systems development and support.
Must be able to participate in a team environment and operate individually.
Excellent problem resolution, analysis and customer service skills required.
Must have ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
A solid knowledge of ITIL and the practical application of these methodologies a strong plus.
